Gregory E. Glyukmann was born October 25, 1898 in Vitebsk, Belarus. In 1917, he enrolled to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow, but three years later, in 1920, left school and went to Berlin to get away from the revolution. In Berlin, he changed his last name from Glickman on Gluckman.
In 1924 he went to Italy, where for the first 9 months of painted many paintings. In October of the same year he had his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Druet in Paris. In 1925 he exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries, Salon d'Automne and the Salon National des Beaux Arts. His paintings were well received by critics and sold well. At the same time, he also held personal exhibitions in London and New York. He painted the streets of Paris, full of people, sensual nudes and scenes from the Paris nightlife. A separate theme in his work - a ballerina, which he painted in different moments of their stay on the stage and behind the scenes. He made friends with the world-renowned violinist Jasha Heifetz Heifetz was also the largest collector of works Glyukmana. Gluckman preferred the company of artists and intellectuals to society other artists. He painted mainly on wooden panels, using the method of layer overlay paint, which he learned in Moscow. In June 1941, he was running from Paris to the south of France, he fled the advancing German army, and then emigrated to the United States. He had a studio in New York, where he held several solo exhibitions during the war. In 1945, he moved to Los Angeles, where he began to exhibit his paintings in Dalzell Hatfield Galleries. He exhibited there for two decades. Gluckman painted in Paris once again, for a brief period in 1954, and held an exhibition of his paintings at the Gallery Drouant-David, but sosnovnaya his residence was in Los Angeles. Over time, he became an American citizen. He died in 1973. Glyukmana career was long and successful, and his paintings are in many public and private collections around the world.
